Tikoubaouine are originally from “Tamanrasset” they belong to the ethnic group called “The Touaregs” also known as the “blue people” descendants of the Berber natives of North Africa.
Their music is what is called “Desert Blues” a style of music from the Sahara region of Northern and West Africa that mixes Electric Blues, Folk Music and African vibes, some people say that their roots are the foundations of the American blues.
Their music is sung in Tamasheq Language, the lyrics are being rooted in traditional Touareg poetry, with topics including love, beauty, the struggle of desert life and often mentions the Sahara Desert itself.
It is a longing for maintaining the Touareg traditions although they use modern instrumentation such as electric “Dirhane” (Wishes). In 2020 they came back with a second album called “Ahaney” (honesty) which was produced by the Algerian Label Ostowana Music.
During the global pandemic the band got together to record a new album that is much more than following the foot steps of the Touareg’s music pioneers but carving a very distinctive creative touch and sound which will be released this summer of 2022. Tikoubaouine aspire not to be only the nomads of the Sahara, but the nomads of the world.
